Dolphy Legacy Ends: A Nation in Mourning

by bhebotenchantress | Published: Sep 03, 2012

It is with sad thoughts that we report that on 8:34pm Tuesday, July 10, 2012. The legendary Rodolfo Vera  Quizon Sr., more popularly known as the Comedy King, Dolphy, ended his  war with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. His bout with the illness closed with a cardiac arrest as stated by Eric Quizon, son and the spokesperson of the family since Dolphy was admitted at the Makati Medical Centre over a month ago.

Led by President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, celebrities, enthusiasts, the entire nation and Filipino communities from different places across the globe, mourn his passing.
"Nakikiisa ako at ang aking pamilya, sampu ng ating mga kasamahan sa gobyerno, sa pagluluksa ng Pamilya Quizon ngayong gabi. Ang pagpanaw ni Rodolfo Quizon Sr.—ang nag-iisang Hari ng Komedya—ay tiyak na nagdudulot ng lumbay sa isang bansang matagal niyang pinasaya," (source:yahoo.ph) the President stated.

Last month, Dolphy was among a few noted by the Vice President Jejomar Binay worthy to be recognized as a “National Artist” but he did not live to see the day for an official nomination and deliberations for the prestigious recognition.

Condolences for the bereaved Quizon family also flooded social networking sites. “Rest in peace, my beloved Tito Dolphy. I will continue to do my best to follow the beautiful example you set for all of us, even when you didn't know it. I love you from the bottom of my heart. I miss you sooooo very much already. Showbiz has again lost one of its handful of truly talented and most decent members. You left us with so few who are like you. Your leaving has just made us all realize all the more how much we love you,” (source:yahoo.ph) Sharon Cuneta tweeted.

The Quizons expressed their gratitude for heartfelt condolements and despite the loss, encouraged everyone to smile for the departed comedy king. “Heaven is a happier place with him there.” Eric Quizon said.

For people like me who knew Dolphy just from the silverscreen, it is the morals from his craft that he left that makes the life he led a legend. He was an instrument for us to realize and remember that life might be a struggle because of a few circumstances but we have more than enough reasons to be happy, grateful and content. Rest in peace Dolphy.
